| Guerrera, Riddell named Player, Rookie of the Year
College Hockey America announced its 2001-02 all-conference
team as selected by head coaches. Wayne State University goaltender
David Guerrera earned CHA Player of the Year honors, marking
the third straight year a goaltender won the award. Bemidji
State University forward Riley Riddell was named CHA Rookie
of the Year.
Derek Olson of Air Force was the lone senior among five juniors
on the first team, while seniors Brant Somerville of Findlay
and Scott Crawford of Niagara highlighted the second team.
Riley Riddell of Bemidji State and Rigel Shaw of Findlay were
selected to the second team as well as the all-rookie squad.
Regular season champion Wayne State filled three spots on
the first team and one on the second, while regular season
runner-up Bemidji State had six honorees among the three teams.
Alabama-Huntsville had four players selected to the all-conference
teams, followed by Findlay with three selections, Air Force
with two and Niagara with one.
Guerrera, a three-time CHA Player of the Week this season,
led the league in goals against average (3.05), save percentage
(.904) and win pecentage (17-11-4, .594). Riddell, a four-time
CHA Rookie of the Week, earned the league's top scoring honors
among freshman, finishing with 14 goals and 18 assists for
32 points.
Coach of the Year honors went to Wayne State University bench
boss Bill Wilkinson. In three seasons, Wilkinson has a record
of 43-48-8 with the Warriors. Overall, Wilkinson is 356-349-61
in 20 years as a college head coach.
